Conditions for admission to study in Master degree study programmes implemented at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague in the 2017/18 academic year

 

The admission of applicants to Master degree study programmes is regulated by the following documents:
Act No. 111/1998 Coll. on Universities and on Changes and Amendments of Other Related Acts, as amended, the Statute of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU in Prague, the CTU Admission Procedure Rules (Annex No. 2 to the CTU Statute), these "Conditions for Admission to Study in Master Degree Study Programmes Implemented at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU in Prague" and the Dean´s Directive Public Announcement of the Admission Procedure to Master Degree Study Programmes Organised at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague in the 2017/18 Academic Year (hereinafter "Dean´s Directive")

 

  1. Basic conditions for admission to study in Master degree study programmes:
    1. Successful completion of Bachelor degree study:
      For study programmes of Civil Engineering/Stavební inženýrství, Buildings and Environment, Intelligent Buildings, Nuclear Engineering Constructions and Civil Engineering, successful completion of a Bachelor degree study programme oriented towards civil engineering or architecture and building engineering.
      For the study programme of Architecture and Building Engineering, successful completion of a Bachelor degree study programme oriented towards architecture and civil engineering where the study was completed by a bachelor thesis written in the form of an architectural study or a building project.
      For the study programme of Geodesy and Cartography, successful completion of a Bachelor degree study programme oriented towards geodesy and cartography or geomatics.
    2. Submission of a properly filled in application form by the 31st March 2017.
    3. Submission of enclosures to the application form specified in the Dean´s Directive.
    4. Obtaining the minimum number of points in the entrance examination pursuant to par. 3.
    5. Obtaining the minimum total number of points in the admission procedure pursuant to par. 6.
    6. In the case of foreign citizens (excluding applicants from the Slovak Republic) applying for study in a study programme taught in Czech language, certification of the readiness to study in Czech language in one of the ways specified in the Dean´s Directive.
    7. In the case of applicants for study in a study programme taught in English language, certification of the readiness to study in English in one of the ways specified in the Dean´s Directive.

    The applicants who have complied with the above conditions will be admitted to study at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague (hereinafter "FCE") in the order given by the total number of points obtained in the admission procedure pursuant to par. 4, maximally in numbers filling individual study programmes and branches to capacity as specified in par. 8. If more applicants are placed in the last place pursuant to par. 8, all these applicants will be admitted.

     

  2. Entrance examination:
    1. For study programmes of Civil Engineering/Stavební inženýrství, Geodesy and Cartography, Buildings and Environment, Intelligent Buildings, Nuclear Engineering Constructions and Civil Engineering, the entrance examination consists of a written test in branch-oriented thematic areas. General requirements for the examination are specified in the Dean´s Directive.
      For applicants who completed their study in a related Bachelor degree branch of study at FCE pursuant to par. 7 in the 2016/17 or 2015/16 academic year, the results of their oral examinations in thematic areas of the state graduation examination will be recognised as the results of the entrance examination. The number of points for the entrance examination will be specified as the average of the point evaluation of the examinations in thematic areas pursuant to par. 5.

    2. For the study programme of Architecture and Building Engineering, the entrance examination consists of two parts:
      • oral part – an interview about architecture and architectural design of buildings, including the submission of a portfolio of architectural works;
      • written part – a test in technical design of buildings.
      General requirements for the examination are specified in the Dean´s Directive.
      For applicants who completed their study by the defence of a Bachelor thesis registered at the Department of Architecture FCE in the 2016/17 or 2015/16 academic year, the overall results of the state graduation examination will be recognised as the results of the entrance examination. The number of points for the entrance examination will be specified as the point evaluation of the resulting mark for the state graduation examination pursuant to par. 5.

     

  3. The minimum number of points for the entrance examination necessary for admission to study:
    Study programmes of Civil Engineering/Stavební inženýrství, Geodesy and Cartography, Buildings and Environment, Intelligent Buildings, Nuclear Engineering Constructions and Civil Engineering:
    40 points for the entrance examination (the maximum possible number of points: 100)
    Study programme of Architecture and Building Engineering:
    20 points for the oral part of the examination (the maximum possible number of points: 50)
    20 points for the written part of the examination (the maximum possible number of points: 50).

     

  4. The total number of points in the admission procedure:
    1. For study programmes of Civil Engineering/Stavební inženýrství, Geodesy and Cartography, Buildings and Environment, Intelligent Buildings, Nuclear Engineering Constructions and Civil Engineering, the total number of points in the admission procedure is calculated as 25% of the results of the entrance examination (max. 100 points) and 75% of the study results obtained in Bachelor degree study (max. 300 points). The results of Bachelor degree study are calculated as the study weighted average of all courses considered with a weight of 0.8 and the mark for the Bachelor thesis defence considered with a weight of 0.2.
      The total number of points obtained in the admission procedure (max. 400 points) is calculated from the formula
      Z + 3 (0.8 . P + 0.2 . B)

      where:
      Z is the number of points for the entrance examination,
      P is the point evaluation of the study weighted average of all courses completed in the Bachelor degree study (specified pursuant to par. 5),
      B is the point evaluation of the mark for the Bachelor thesis defence (specified pursuant to par. 5).

    2. For the study programme of Architecture and Building Engineering, the total number of points in the admission procedure is calculated as 25% of the results of the entrance examination (max. 100 points) and 75% of the study results obtained in Bachelor degree study (max. 300 points). The results of Bachelor degree study are calculated as the study weighted average of "Studio" courses considered with a weight of 0.5, the study weighted average of all courses considered with a weight of 0.3 and the mark for the Bachelor thesis defence considered with a weight of 0.2.
      The total number of points obtained in the admission procedure (max. 400 points) is calculated from the formula
      Z + 3 (0.5 . A + 0.3 . P + 0.2 . B)

      where:
      Z is the number of points for the entrance examination,
      A is the point evaluation of the study weighted average of "Studio" courses completed in Bachelor degree study (specified pursuant to par. 5),
      P is the point evaluation of the study weighted average of all courses completed in Bachelor degree study (specified pursuant to par. 5),
      B is the point evaluation of the mark for the Bachelor thesis defence (specified pursuant to par. 5).

     

  5. The study weighted average is identified pursuant to Art. 12 of the Study and Examination Code for Students of CTU in Prague as amended. If some other university does not use a credit system, the course weight is given by the number of its teaching units per week.
    The study weighted average is recalculated into point evaluation using the formula:

    (125 - 25 . PR),       where PR is the respective study weighted average expressed using two decimal places.

    The marks for individual parts of the state graduation examination and the resulting mark are recalculated into point evaluation as follows:

            A (excellent) 100 points;
            B (very good) 87,5 points;
            C (good) 75 points;
            D (acceptable) 62,5 points;
            E (satisfactory) 50 points.

     

  6. The minimum total number of points obtained in the admission procedure necessary for admission to study:
            all study programmes:         240 points.

  9. Based upon a written application, the entrance examination may be waived by the Dean to foreign citizens (excluding applicants from the Slovak Republic) who apply for study in the study programme of Civil Engineering and certify their corresponding knowledge of English language in the application form pursuant to par. 1g).

  10. Depending on the results of the admission procedure the Dean may reduce the minimum number of points required for the successful passing of the entrance examination for individual study programmes (see par. 3) and/or the minimum total number of points gained in the admission procedure required (see par. 6).

  11. While announcing the admission procedure the Dean may condition the opening of some study programmes or branches of study by minimum numbers of students admitted to study in these study programmes or branches of study.

  12. The Dean may increase the maximum numbers of students admitted to study in individual study programmes or branches of study specified in par. 8, based on the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports limits for the numbers of financed students or considering the number of applicants registered for individual branches of study.

  13. FCE does not accept applications of applicants who were expelled from study at FCE in a disciplinary proceeding under Art. 2 of the Disciplinary Code for the Students of CTU in Prague or who terminated their study by withdrawing from study during an opened disciplinary proceeding.

  14. The course of the admission procedure, including the dates of entrance examinations, is regulated by the Dean´s Directive.

  15. Conditions for admission to study in the branches of study of the study programme of Civil Engineering incorporated into the European Erasmus Mundus programme are common for all partner institutions and are published on the following websites:
    http://www.msc-sahc.org/ - for the branch of study of Advanced Masters in Structural Analysis of Monuments and Historical Constructions;
    http://steel.fsv.cvut.cz/suscos/index.htm - for the branch of study of Sustainable Constructions under Natural Hazards and Catastrophic Events.

  16. These conditions were approved by the FCE Academic Senate on 9. 11. 2016.
