Information on compulsory professional practicum of students in the programme of Civil Engineering

 

1) Professional practicum

  • duration of practicum is 3 weeks (not necessarily continuously)
  • practicum must be completed in a construction enterprise (firm) or design office or in another institution active within the building construction sector, or, exceptionally, at a professional department. The choice of the place for the practicum is at the student´s discretion, it is not arranged by the Faculty
  • practicum can be completed at any time during studies, i.e. also in lower years of study – but no later than by registration for the Bachelor´s thesis
  • practicum must be documented with a report (for plan see below) and entered into the faculty electronic registration system accessible on the FCE intranet prior to the Bachelor´s thesis registration.

  • credit for the practicum and acceptance of the report are administered by the department at which the student registers for their Bachelor´s thesis (see below)
  • presentation of the completed practicum is a component part of the final graduation examination.

 

2) Granting a credit for and completing the course Professional practicum 10ODPR

  • the course "10ODPR" is registered by students in the 7th semester of study, related practicum, however, may be completed at any time during study (including lower years of study) no later than at registration for the Bachelor´s thesis.
  • The course "10ODPR" does not conform to the provisions laid out in the Dean´s Directive for the Implementation of Bachelor´s and Master´ Study Programmes at FCE, Art.2 Par.5. Thus, students may receive a credit for this course in another semester than that in which they enrolled in the course - no later than at registration for the Bachelor´s thesis, the course need not be reregistered.
  • credit for the ODPR course is granted by the department (the Bachelor´s thesis supervisor) no later than at confirmation of the Application for the Bachelor´s Thesis. This form confirmed by the Bachelor´s thesis supervisor is submitted by the student to the Student Registrar at the time of registration for the semester in which the course "Bachelor´s thesis" is enrolled.

 

3) Plan of practicum report

Length:
  • 2 text pages of A4 format
  • report may be fitted with photos, graphic documentation etc. on additional 2 pages
  • enclosure: the professional practicum certificate (the form Practicum Certificate)
Content:
  • dates of completing the practicum
  • brief profile of the enterprise, firm, office (field of activity, size, main activity, or other activities)
  • student´s activity during the practicum (direct participation in work or becoming familiar with the company activity, results etc.)
  • assessment of practicum contribution to the student
  • assessment of teaching in relation to the completed practicum (potential suggestions for changes in instruction)
