INFORMATION RESOURCE CENTRES WITHIN CZECH UNIVERSITIES

The department of concrete structures is currently co-ordinating a one year multinational and multi disciplinary project, with activities being undertaken within a total of 5 educational institutions from both West and Eastern Europe. The project has been enabled with the support of the Tempus Phare section of the European Training Foundation, as a Tempus Compact Measures Project. The following represents an introductory summary, with a brief background to the project, outlining its aims, methods, planned activities and the partners involved.

The ultimate aim of the project lies in the creation of information resource centres or 'helpdesks' within two Czech universities (Czech Technical University and Charles University), to collect, collate, store and provide information and assistance both within and outside the immediate academic environment. The help desks will be sensitive to, and oriented toward, the evolutionary changes within Czech education. It will thus be geared toward supporting and enhancing the processes of modernisation and change which are taking place at two diverse Czech academic institutions

In order to achieve these objectives, the project's aims are to:

1. Establish new structures and facilities to support the processes of modernisation and change
2. Create formal and informal channels to facilitate communication and feedback
3. Effectively disseminate the results of the compact measures project
4. Facilitate staff development mobility to support the above activities
5. Develop and upgrade facilities at the partner country universities
