Students must acquaint themselves with Faculty facilities
The students are obliged to acquaint themselves with the facilities of the Faculties. In doing that, they must pay attention to the placement of portable and mobile fire extinguishers and wall hydrants. All facilities are fitted with Fire Alarm Instructions and Fire Evacuation Plans. They describe the activity of persons in the case of a fire, the method of its reporting and possibilities of escaping to a safe place. Students are obliged to become familiar with these documents.

Basic duties of physical persons

  • everybody is obliged to act so as not to cause a fire
  • not perform work and activities for which they are not authorized and which could lead to a potential fire (unauthorized repairs of electrical installations, appliances etc.)
  • not use unapproved electrical appliances
  • not mishandle or inappropriately use any fire prevention equipment and not damage it
  • keep escape routes clear, not put any objects in them.

Activities of persons in the case of fire
Each person who notices a fire is obliged to report it without delay to the control room at the front desk of Building C - extension 5469. Electrical fire signalization (EPS) is installed in all facilities. Its operation is set off by fire sensors, which are fitted in all rooms. It anybody notices a fire, EPS can be activated directly by the EPS button.
Immediately after the alarm is activated, electromagnets will be released in the respective fire cell and doors will be closed, entrance turnstiles will be released, and on the intercom in 20 sec. intervals sound signals will be alternated with a recorded loop warning about the fire and giving instructions for persons who are in this location. All are obliged to use escape routes to exit the building to check that all have evacuated. Alarm activation is programmed so that the alarm is only announced on the floor or the fire cell where the fire has occurred. If the signs of a fire appear one floor higher, the alarm is also announced there. It the fire propagates still one floor higher or to a lower floor, the alarm is automatically announced for the whole building as it is a large-scale or untypical fire.

Fire protection means (portable and mobile fire extinguishers, hydrants). They are installed in all facilities at easily accessible and permanently available points. Water, powder and foam extinguishers are used in the facilities.

Principles for using fire extinguishers

  • portable extinguishers are suitable only for managing a fire of a small size. The extinguisher activity time is ca 1 minute. The water extinguisher cannot be used at places with live electrical installations. In using the foam fire extinguisher maximum caution is necessary - beware of potential burning of skin.
  • select a suitable extinguisher
  • choose a point from where to extinguish the fire (to be able to leave the space after intervention)
  • pull the pin and start extinguishing the fire.
