Our students have won yet again in the USA in a mixed Czech-American team in the Associated Schools of Construction competition!

Our team of students has once again won the international student competition organised by Region 5 of the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) organisation, to which the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague belongs. Last year’s successful team, consisting of Lenka Kejzarová and Šimon Hušák (both Master’s degree students in Architecture and Building Sciences) and Marek Baláž (Master’s degree student in Management and Economics in Civil Engineering), was complemented this year by Daniel Sedlár (Master’s degree student in Management and Economics in Civil Engineering). The competition took place in the United States of America on February 14–16, 2026. Our students were victorious in a joint international team with students from the University of Oklahoma in the Design Build International category.

How the competition works

The aim of the competition is to develop an architectural design and construction preparation for a real project, including cost calculations. This year, competitors had to tackle the construction of a police station in Royse City, Texas, which was a very unusual assignment for our students. The architects designed the construction project, while the construction planners calculated the construction costs, drew up a rough time schedule, and took care of some other preparatory matters. They worked on the project until the midnight deadline. The most important task was to calculate the costs, which was handled by our student Marek Baláž. To defend the project, the team moved from the assignment location in Oklahoma to Dallas, where the defence took place at the Hurst Conference Center before a jury of experts who had prepared the project themselves.

Competition categories

Several dozen teams participated in the Region 5 ASC competition, which includes schools from Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas, as well as the TEXO organisation. They competed in the categories of Concrete Solutions, Heavy Civil Construction, Commercial Construction, and Design Build. The Design Build category was divided into four other divisions, one of which was Design Build International, in which our students won in a mixed team with students from the University of Oklahoma.

The students also secured sponsors for their trip on their own. Thanks for the support go to the following companies: ATIPDOPRASTAVProject Management ServiceMETROSTAV a JKH Atelier.
