Anotace(semestr )
The course introduces students to the theoretical knowledge of aspects of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in relation to the energy performance of buildings. During the lectures, the basic principles of technical systems of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water management and electricity supply and the different components of the indoor environment are presented and described. The lectures are complemented by seminars where students learn about the development of the HVAC concept and have a hands-on experience with IEQ measurement and evaluation.
Obsah 
This comprehensive course explores the link between sustainable building design, energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality (IEQ). Lectures cover topics ranging from basic energy principles to advanced HVAC technologies, IAQ management, thermal comfort, visual and acoustical design, and psychological well-being. The curriculum culminates with IEQ assessment methods with an emphasis on building performance evaluation. Hands-on seminars expand the curriculum to include energy concepts in air, heat, water, and electricity, as well as advanced seminars on IAQ, thermal comfort, visual comfort, acoustics, and survey research. With a holistic approach, this course will equip students to design and evaluate buildings that prioritize sustainability, occupant comfort, and overall well-being.
Over the course of several seminars, students will experience evaluating IEQ on their own using a variety of measuring instruments, working with applicable standards, and assessing the quality of various IEQ components either in the lecture hall or in the laboratory.
In addition, students will work on independent term papers. In the technical systems section, they will develop a concept of HVAC and learn about the principles of building operation and the use of energy to provide for the indoor environment and building operation. In the IEQ part students will choose three different types of buildings (rooms) where they try to make an IEQ assessment in relation to energy. The conclusions of the assessment are based on available documentation and individual findings.
Examples of buildings that can be explored within the project: university premises, student accommodation, theatre, exhibition hall, railway station, shopping centre, gymnasium, library, church, cinema ...
The course is completed by credit based on active participation in class and submission of assignments, and by examination in the form of submission of an individual essay and its presentation.
