PRAGUE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM

The public transportation system in Prague uses a unified fare system, one ticket is valid for the metro, buses, trams, funicular to Petřín Hill, Prague ferries and suburban train transport.

Both individual tickets and reduced student long-term coupons can be used. They can be purchased in cash or electronically.

The long-term coupon can be bought in the electronic or paper based form, nevertheless, the electronic form is recommended – so-called “Lítačka“ (chip card), into which coupons for suburban transport divided into individual zones (PID) can be downloaded.

ACCOMMODATION

Three alternatives come to mind for studies in Prague – dormitory, private flat or commuting.

Most students stay in Prague throughout the week. Thus, the decision on the choice of accommodation derives from their personal preferences as well as financial status.

DORMITORIES

The dormitory is an ideal opportunity for a quick integration into the university community, student life enjoyment, but also for finding friends and helping each other during studies. Several thousand CTU students find accommodation in dormitories every year. They are situated close to a high-quality public transportation network so that there is no need to worry about commuting. The dormitories are also well equipped for leisure time activities, there are student clubs, body building centres and many other facilities.

Those interested in dormitory accommodation can apply for it on the website www.suz.cvut.cz. CTU guarantees dormitory accommodation to all applicants living outside Prague who have been admitted to the first year of Bachelor degree studies.

CTU uses dormitories in Dejvice (Dejvická, Sinkule and Masaryk Dormitories), in Bubeneč (Bubenečská Dormitory, Orlík), at Strahov, in Prague 4 – Podolí and in the centre of Prague (Hlávkova Dormitory).

More information about individual dormitories, the price list and how to apply for dormitory accommodation can be found on the CTU Service Facilities Administration website.

PRIVATE FLAT

Living in a private flat mostly means flat sharing. It is a welcome opportunity for the people who value their privacy more. While choosing a private flat it is worth considering also the time required for travelling and the availability of the transportation connection to the Faculty.

EATING

The Faculty surroundings and the campus itself offer numerous eating opportunities. Students can use refectories with reduced food prices for students, or go to one of the many nearby restaurants, pubs and bistros. There is a variety of options for vegetarians or those who prefer Chinese cuisine, pizzerias or fast food.

Students can also buy refreshment right inside the Faculty building – there is a buffet offering cold and hot dishes, sweets and salads. Or they can visit a cafe with its excellent coffee and home-made cakes.

The refectories situated closest to the Faculty are the Student House, Technical Refectory and Masaryk Dormitory, and cold and hot refreshment is also served in Cafe Prostoru, a coffee shop located on the ground floor of the National Technical Library.
