Montgomery White Water Park

MODELS OF WHITEWATER COURSES FOR THE AMERICAN MONTGOMERY PARK PREPARED AND TESTED BY SPECIALISTS FROM THE FACULTY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING CTU IN PRAGUE

A giant outdoor park with unique whitewater courses is being built in Montgomery (USA). The shorter course, 380 metres in length, meets the Olympic Standard, while the longer one for recreation is over 500 metres long. The design of the courses both in hydraulic terms and with regard to their hydraulic optimization was entrusted to the specialists from the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague, who by means of scale-down models of both courses, made at the Water management Experimental Centre of the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague, addressed the problem.

THE PROJECT’S UNIQUENESS

“The uniqueness of the project lies in the possibility of combining an Olympic-Standard racing water  course, which can host national and international events, with a recreational course, which will enable local young people to develop their skills from beginner to expert levels. The Park’s concept has been conceived as a recycling scheme with repumping.  The water driven by the pumping station from the lower to the upper reservoir is returned again to the lower reservoir after passing through the “artificial river”, explains Ing. Vojtěch Bareš, Ph.D., from the Department of Hydraulics and Hydrology of the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague. The CTU team supervised by him, associated experts from the Departments of Hydraulics and Hydrology, Hydraulic Structures, Special Geodesy and Water Management Experimental Centre.

WHAT WILL THE PARK OFFER?

In addition to wild and calm water sports such as rafting and kayaking, The Montgomery Whitewater Park will offer its visitors e.g. zip-lining, artificial climbing walls or various rope courses, all in some contact with the water. At the same time, there will be single tracks for biking, areas for recreation and barbecue spots fitted with adequate facilities.

The senior designer of the Park is the S2o Design and Engineering Company, owned by Scott Shipley, an American kayaker, a several times US Olympic water slalom champion.
