The study in this program is subjected to tuition fees charged.

The doctoral degree studies in English represent a balanced focus on architecture, urban planning and cultural heritage, and are intended for both the graduates of Czech civil engineering or architectural schools, as well as the graduates of other related schools, including a number of specialists working in monument care and national institutions.

Features

  • The study programme of Architecture and Sustainable Development supports and develops close links between architecture, urban planning, building construction, cultural heritage and sustainable development.
  • The quality of knowledge and skills acquired in the study programme is based primarily on a multidisciplinary concept with a balanced share of individual topics (architecture, monument care, urban planning, civil engineering) with emphasis on current values ​​of cultural heritage, the understanding of architecture and the environment and modern technologies.
  • The study concept is based on the unification and classification of knowledge, a deep understanding of the nature of architecture, construction, sustainable development and their interrelationships.
  • During studies, attention is paid to the development of the students' ability to obtain information from international scientific sources and to improve their presentation and publishing skills in English.
  • Students participate in solving scientific research issues in grant and development projects and cooperate in solving specific topics.
  • Students have the opportunity to present the results of their studies at a number of conferences, such as AUR - Architecture and Sustainable Development, as well as in numerous publications with the potential to apply the study and scientific results in their subsequent theoretical and applied research and their transition to the professional practice.

Smart design and technologies

The issues of the identification, methodological evaluation, registration and protection of cultural heritage and modern architecture in the context of sustainable development are currently among the most topical ones. 

At the same time, architecture, construction and their sustainable development are among the areas with the highest potential for achieving energy savings and reducing the negative impact of human activity on the environment. To achieve a sustainable goal, an informed and coordinated approach to new and historic buildings is essential. 

Architecture and sustainable development thus enter new, often unexpected contexts in the contemporary reality and, therefore, require updated and alternative approaches to development, research and protection.
